“It’s nice to be your own boss and be able to do things the way you want to do it and not having to be underneath somebody,” says Linda Do, who is one of the co-owners of Pho Nhi Vietnamese Noodle House.
It is located on 21st and Garnett inside the Nam-Hai Oriental Food Market here in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The restaurant first opened back in November 2014. With husband Quan Do, the couple both are in charge of the business; Quan works the front of the house, and Linda is in charge of the finances and staffing. According to Linda, business has gotten “busier and grown a lot over the years.”
This Vietnamese restaurant has quite a few choices for appetizers and entrees on their menu. Their appetizers include egg rolls, summer rolls, sandwhiches, and papaya salads. However, their main entrees are what most people come for: vermicelli noodle bowls, fried rice, rice platters, and the most popular of all, pho. Pho is one of the most popular dishes in Vietnam. It is a rice noodle soup with beef broth, comes with your choice of meat, and with a side of veggies including lime, beansprouts, basil leafs, and jalapenos that can be put in to alter the flavor.
When asking Linda about what kind of customers does she tend to see at the restaurant, she says the multitude of people that come in to eat at Pho Nhi are very diverse. “You would think it’s Asian food so only Asian people, but it’s not, there’s very different people that come in,” she states. Take one look around, and you can see the diversity. People of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds gathering in one place to experience a delicious meal.
The authentic feeling you get from the food at this small local business makes the experience much more enjoyable. Quan and Linda do a tremendous job with Pho Nhi, and making a place to visit again and again.
